Its funny that Maria do Mar as a concept was designed and materialized before I was a mother. I had three step daughters and as a step mom, had quite had time finding a series of fundamental toys and décor for kids.

I spent lots of time actually making toys, and tools for them to work with, be it to help them with specific tasks or simply to teach them things. Being in a numerous family even before I had kids, made me realize that home and décor solutions need to be durable, adaptable and above all sustainable. Maria do Mar took off in 2014.


Families have changed in the same way that the world has changed, and we need to be able to change as well. Sustainability and fair trade are our two main principles in terms of our choice of designers. We need to carry the best products, with noble materials, like solid wood, cork, metal, cotton, linen, hevea rubber, glass; these products must be educational, high quality and sustainable to the world.


We started by carrying wooden toys, which we couldn’t find easily, basic, neutral, simple wooden toys; toys for early childhood, toddlers and kids. We moved on into the best quality soft toys, and then home décor. We are big fans of Maria Montessori and the Waldorf methods, and carry all sorts of products that focus on empowering kids, giving them autonomy.

We opened our first store, online early 2016, and our first brick and mortar boutique in Lisbon in 2017. The boutique had such a nice acceptance that we soon needed to find a new store.

Furniture and Childcare came in 2018, with the opening of our second store, the WareHouse, a Family Concept Store filled with all parents need for their baby. Focused on Mothers and Babies, with everything from Carriers to Cots, from dummies to Swaddles and Babygrows. A 400m2 store with personal shoppers, room planning services, and an all thought through experience designed for parents.

Early 2019 we finally launch our new site, translated into English, French and Brazilian Portuguese, with shipping to over 200 countries, and a complete platform filled with parenting and kids content and all the brands that we love.
